The Republic of Croatia is a young, independent state in southern europe with presidential rule. This country was one of the republics of Yugoslavia before the adoption of the constitution in 1990. An international recognition was received in January 1992. The country area is 56,542 square km., the population is 4.8 million people, most croats (78%) and serbs (12%), mostly catholics.

Croatia is a member of the UN since 1922, the country plans to enter the EU in 2012. The official language is croatian, a very similar to russian and intuitive. Croatia borders with Slovenia to the north-west, with Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina on the south, Serbia and Hungary to the north-east, the Adriatic Sea in the west. The capital is megacity Zagreb.The major cities are Split, Osijek, Rijeka.

Climate and landscape

There are two climatic zones on the territory of the country. The mediterranean climate is on the Adriatic coast, with hot and dry summer, but wet and warm in winter. The coast is mountainous, rugged terrain with numerous bays. There are beautiful sea rocks along the coastline, and nearly one thousand islands, of which only seven are inhabited tens. The most warm season on the Adriatic coast is a period from june to september. The average summer temperature is around 30 degrees, water is heated to 25-27 degrees. The sea in Croatia is one of the most salinity, transparency, and cleanest in the world. |
The climate is temperate continental inside, with fairly cold winters and warm summers. The coldest time is a period from December to February, the warm is a period from June to August, but the air temperature is always above zero. It’s a hilly plain to the east of Croatia, where river valleys are the Sava and Drava. The west and the centre of Croatia submitted divided Dinaric with heights up to 1,8 thousand meters above the sea level. The mountain areas of the country are covered with beech, mixed and oak forests where there is no limestone karst wasteland. |
